![]() We don’t use GoodNotes, and we find three pens to be too few even for reviews. Our pen thicknesses are still limited to three, though, which is not enough. Chances are, you won’t need that many colours to take notes, so those should be enough. The toolbar can now accommodate twelve colours. You can customise your pen tool to change its colour and thickness. I prefer the brush pen, it feels smoother than the fountain pen. GoodNotes has three types of pens: fountain, ball & brush. It’s a decent source of revenue and it does save us from having to hunt for digital stationery on Etsy. Generally, we support developers adding shops to their apps. It feels like they are following in Notability’s footsteps and we can’t help but wonder how much they’ll copy. We can now get more page templates from the GoodNotes shop. That way, I can see the contents of my notebooks right from the homepage, which makes it easier to find notes. Notebooks in GoodNotes can have covers, but I prefer not having any. At the moment, we have to import PDFs in the app so we can use our digital notebooks in the app. Page colours are still limited to three (white, yellow or dark) but that doesn’t matter because you can save custom templates to the application’s template library. We just hope in the future we’ll be able to save PDFs, like we can in Noteful, instead of just single pages. The app supports plenty of paper sizes, which can either be portrait or landscape. When creating a new notebook in GoodNotes you can customise it by choosing from a lot of page templates. We highly recommend trying them as well, before choosing an app. You can also try Noteful, Nebo and Notability as well, before purchasing a note-taking app. ![]() We love that users can now try the app before deciding to add it to their workflow. That’s probably enough to help you decide if you like the app enough to pay for it. GoodNotes app is free to try for new users, allowing you to create up to three free notebooks. This review focuses on the iPad version of the app. The app currently has some beta versions for Android and Windows versions, though we are not sure when exactly they will launch. It is available on the iPad, iPhone and Mac for an in-app, one-time purchase of $7.99, for all your devices (universal purchase). For the same reason, although the program works perfectly well on desktop computers with a mouse, it is more oriented to Surfaces and graphic tablets.GoodNotes is a handwriting note-taking app by Time Base Technology Limited. It is not so much a program dedicated to writing, but a tool that will make it easier to take notes in an instant. GoodNotes is an excellent app for taking quick notes and creating virtual notebooks. You can add comments and footnotes with a single touch, which is very useful. You can even easily insert your own photographs and images. ![]() But you can use markers, erasers or geometric shapes. The most useful tool, of course, is the fountain pen, which can be set with different thicknesses and colors. Once you have opened your virtual notebook, you can start drawing on it with different tools. The goal is to make you feel like you are using a real notebook. All in all, you can give a personalized and, above all, very elegant look to all your notebooks. You can also choose between several different covers. You can choose from lots of different types of paper: writing papers, white papers, planning papers, etc. The first thing that strikes you about GoodNotes is the large number of options you have when creating a new notebook. This is particularly useful considering that the app is also available on Mac, iOS and Android. The good thing is that all the notebooks you create and any changes will be stored in your account, so you can access them later from another device. You can either use a Microsoft or a Google account, and you'll get the same features regardless of which option you choose. To use GoodNotes you must first identify yourselves. What does that mean? Very simple: to take notes with the app, just write directly with your fingertip or the on-screen stylus, or using the mouse (although this option is less comfortable, of course). GoodNotes is a software to turn both your computer and your Surface into a real virtual notebook to take notes in the most comfortable and quickest way possible. ![]()
